Bah.

Looking for a new host before I even got one running. A few days ago I had ordered hosting package through godaddy.com, where I have purchased the various domain names I have.  I was supposed to get a $1.99 domain name with the purchase of a hosting plan, but when I looked into getting the package up and running today, I found out I was not given the domain name and discount.

I contacted godaddy.com and was told that I would have to purchase a domain name, have my credit card charged for the purchase and THEN they would do a refund.  They gave me a run around about how they couldn't give me a domain name for $1.99 without going through all of that.  Bullshit.  I paid for the service, I should get the service WITHOUT having to refund and repurchase (each time taking days to go through on a credit card).  At this point I have no trust in godaddy.com, so why should I authorize them to use my credit card again?  I don't bloody well think so.

So, I do have the three months hosting package.  I am not giving them any authorization to access my card, not even for a refund at this point.  Screw me once, fine, you don't get a fucking second chance, thank you very much.  So, I let my feelings be known to the poor helpless customer service rep, who probably has a bad enough life living in the slums of Hyderabad or some such third world shit-hole.  I decided to assign the three month hosting package to another domain name.

That should be simple enough, right?  Should go through without a problem on a domain name that I had purchased even EARLIER than the hosting package.  Yeah.  You forget this is godaddy.com I am working with.  I tried to assign the domain name to the hosting package but it wouldn't let me.  I kept getting an error stating that the domain name was already in use.  It wasn't in use, at least not from the time I purchased it.  Not even as a redirect or one of those insta-page holder things godaddy.com will let you create.

Come to find out, after dealing with another customer service rep (this one has my kudos for doing an excellent job whilst working for such a shitty company) Brandon, who's real name is probably along the lines of Bhadrang, but I digress...  He was very helpful and supposedly by tomorrow I should be able to get that domain name attached to the hosting plan.  I'll start work on a site, but I am looking for another host once these three months are up.  I would have to get MEGA discounts and freebies if I was going to even consider staying with godaddy.  If I purchase anymore domain names and when it comes time to re-register, I'll use another company.

If there is anyone out there reading my blatherings, do you have a reputable company you recommend?

I use http://1and1.com. If you want to go with them, let me know and I'll give you my referral link. I purchase my domains from http://godaddy.com but I host them at 1 and 1.
